One benefit of having a device connected to the internet is that it can stay up to date with the latest firmware and apps. Many Fire TV Cube users have been having trouble with these updates, so I've researched all the possible reasons why it's not updating so that it can be easily fixed.
The Fire TV Cube won't download or install an update due to insufficient storage space on the device, poor internet connection, a VPN in the wrong region, an Amazon server outage, an incomplete installation, overheating, or firmware glitches. Most of these issues can be resolved by restarting the device.

I will explain these issues in more detail below and also share some other ways to fix when restart doesn't work. It's also important to understand how updates are installed, whether automatically or manually.
Fire TV Cube will not update

There are a number of reasons your Fire TV Cube might not update. Here is a basic overview of all the possible causes and how to fix them.
possible problem | Fix |
Not enough disk space | Delete some apps on Fire TV |
Weak internet connection | Move the modem/router closer Restart modem/router and Fire TV Upgrade modem/router |
VPN in wrong region | Disable VPN or change region |
Amazon servers are down | Wait 1-2 days for them to be fixed Call Amazon Support |
Update not complete | Restart Fire TV Cube |
Frozen/Glitches/Overheating | Restart Fire TV Cube Allow Fire TV to cool down Factory settings reset |
Fire TV Cube will not download the update

Not enough disk space
One of the reasons an update won't download is insufficient disk space on the Fire Cube. At least 500MB of disk space must be available to download the update. You can check your storage space by following the steps below.
Home > Settings > My Fire TV > About > Storage
If you need to free up some space on your Fire TV, you can easily uninstall apps you don't use or need. To do this, follow these steps for each app you want to delete.
Home > Settings > Applications > Manage installed applications > (select app) > Uninstall
Bad Internet connection
Another possibility is that you have no or a poor internet connection. If this has been the case since you bought your Fire TV, your modem or router may be too far away. Try moving it closer or connecting with an Ethernet cable to see if that fixes the problem.
If you're having a poor connection due to bandwidth, you may need a new modem/router that supports a larger signal. Before considering this, try connecting to a phone hotspot to see if it makes a difference. If so, you know it's most likely the signal from the modem.
You can test your Fire TV's network connection in Settings. Follow these simple steps below, then press the Play/Pause button on the remote control to start the test.
Home > Settings > Network > (Find your network)
You might also benefit from restarting the Fire TV and modem/router. Unplug all of these from the wall, wait a minute, and then plug them all back in to reconnect.
Check your VPN settings
A VPN is a tool that allows you to change your device's IP address to make it appear as if it is in a different country. This is sometimes used to access region-specific apps, e.g. B. Access to American TV programs from Great Britain.
Some people have noticed that certain updates are not available in their region.
If you have a VPN enabled, you may also be set to a region that has not yet received the update. In this case, disable the VPN or set a different country to see if you can download the update.
Amazon-Server
If all else fails, the Amazon servers are likely down. This issue usually takes a day or two to resolve. So it can just be a waiting game to upgrade your Fire Cube. You can always call the Amazon support network to see if this is the case.
Fire TV Cube stuck on finishing updates

If your Fire TV Cube installed an update but seems to freeze before it can complete, you may have a different issue. All of the issues listed below can generally be resolved by restarting the device. If you're still able to navigate through the settings, follow the steps below to restart the Fire TV Cube.
Settings > Device > Reboot
If you can't navigate through something and the Fire TV is completely frozen, you can either press and hold the Select and Play/Pause buttons on the remote for five seconds, or unplug the device from the wall. After about 10 seconds, you should turn Fire TV back on to see if the update can complete.
Amazon also recommended unplugging the Fire TV Cube's HDMI cable from the TV if you do this.
Update requires restarting Fire TV
One reason the update fails to complete is that all Fire TV updates require a device restart to complete the update. A message should prompt you to do so.
In this case, your Fire TV will still work; It's just a matter of completing the update. This is easy to forget if you leave the Fire TV on for long periods of time.
The Fire TV Cube is not working
When the screen freezes, it is generally due to a bug in the system that is causing the Fire TV to glitch. These will be fixed with firmware updates so you will need to insist on restarting the device to install this update.
The cube can also get overheated, causing another error. This occurs when the Fire TV is in an enclosed area such as a building. B. in a glass TV cabinet, if it is too close to another device or if it is exposed to direct sunlight for a long time.
In this case, you need to turn off the device until it cools down and consider changing its location.
Factory settings reset
If simply restarting the Fire TV doesn't help the issue, you may want to consider performing a factory reset. However, doing so will erase your account information and any content you've downloaded since you got Fire TV. So only consider a factory reset if you are desperate.
Thats is quite easy. Just press and hold the Back and Right buttons on the remote for about 10 seconds and you'll be prompted to start the factory reset. Select Next to begin.
Fire TV Cube stuck downloading update

You may also notice that the latest update does not finish downloading. It can reach a certain point and not go on for days. This could be an error or overheating as mentioned above, but the best thing you can do is restart your Fire TV Cube.
You may also run out of disk space halfway through the download. Fire TV can usually determine if it's running out of disk space before downloading, but see the information earlier in this article to check your disk space.
Fire TV Cube gets stuck checking for updates

This issue seems to be fairly common and could be related to any of the issues discussed above. Most likely, this is a bug that needs to be fixed by Amazon. The best thing to try is to restart the Fire TV or do a factory reset.
How to update Fire TV Cube

The Fire TV Cube will automatically check for updates every time it starts up. If there is a new update, it will download the update for you. You can then confirm that you want to install the update.
Note that you will need to restart Fire TV to complete the update. If you want to continue using the device, the update will simply install when you stop using it.
