She has also produced chart-topping hits like "So What" and "Raise Your Glass" and is a prominent animal rights activist for PETA.

Early life

P!nk (pronounced pink) was born Alecia Beth Moore on September 8, 1979 in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Pink, as she is also known, takes her name from the filmReservoir Dogs, a film she saw as a teenager and whose character Mr. Pink is someone her friends all agreed with.

Pink was the second child of Jim and Judy Moore. She lived a largely typical middle-class life in suburban Doylestown, Pennsylvania. However, her parents' strained relationship led to the couple divorcing when Pink was three years old. Their separation and the subsequent demise of the marriage partly sparked a rebellious attitude from Pink. "When I was little, I was never allowed to go to any of my friends because I was a bad influence," she said of her early life. "None of her parents liked me and my own parents were scared to death of me - and for me."

Instead, Pink found solace in music, and by the age of 13 she was already navigating Philadelphia's complicated club scene. By the time she was 14, she was already an accomplished singer and dancer and began writing her own songs. She also had a regular singing gig at a Philly nightclub every Friday night. But it proved to be a tough life for her as she became engulfed in a world of drugs (she nearly overdosed at age 15) and petty crime. She eventually dropped out of high school before returning to pursue her G.E.D. In 1998.

early music career

However, it was obvious that Pink had a talent for music. One night, a manager at MCA happened to notice the cheeky teenager and asked her to audition for a developing R&B group. The group, known as Basic Instinct, welcomed Pink into the herd. Despite a record deal and a lot of studio time, the band never got a foothold. Basic Instinct disbanded just two years after its inception. A second run with another R&B band called Choice also came to a quick end in 1998.

Albums & Songs

'Can't Take Me Home', 'There You Go', 'Most Girls'

For Pink, however, no experience was a disaster. Her talent was hard to miss, and with the support of LaFace, Choice's former label, she went into business for herself. She changed her name from Alecia Moore to her stage name Pink and began recording her first solo album. Can't take me home. Released in 2000, the album was a surprise hit, going double platinum and spawning two Top 10 singles: "There You Go" and "Most Girls". It was a record bolstered by their touring schedule, which found them opening for popular boy band *NSYNC.

Despite the newfound fame and success, Pink, who has never been one to hide her true feelings, was far from satisfied. Fearing being lumped in with the glut of pretty female singers that were dominating the market, Pink went for a deeper, edgier sound. "There was no blood, sweat or tears on my first album," she told LondonDaily Mail. “And no emotional exchange between me and the musicians. R&B runs on an assembly line.”

Husband, Family & Personal

She also supports organizations such as Human Rights Campaign, UNICEF and Save the Children.
