Here's how to prepare for a neck lift to ensure a smooth recovery
Before the day of your surgery, there are certain things you should do to make your neck lift recovery period as smooth as possible.
Prepare a bag with everything you need
Preparing for a neck lift can be made easier by dedicating an area in your home to rest and relaxation so you don't have to run to the grocery store in the early days after the procedure. We recommend preparing a bag with all your essentials. It would be useful to have enough reading material and your favorite TV programs ready when you get home.
Arrange for a responsible adult caregiver to look after you
We recommend that you have a friend or family member take care of you for the first 48 hours after the operation as you will be tired and sleepy at this early stage and should rest as much as possible. If you have someone to help you around the house or with childcare, you can focus on your recovery.
Top tips for the best recovery after a neck lift
A smooth and complication-free neck lift recovery can be achieved by following all of the top tips below.
Take your pain medication and antibiotics as directed by your surgeon
Your surgeon will prescribe antibiotics to prevent wound infection and pain relievers to relieve discomfort after the procedure. You should take the medications as directed by your surgeon and avoid over-the-counter medications. Certain over-the-counter medications, such as ibuprofen, can increase the risk of bleeding after the procedure and increase your risk of complications. Always check with your surgeon first before taking any over-the-counter supplements.
Use cold packs to reduce swelling and bruising
Cold packs or ice packs should be used for the first three days after the neck lift to reduce localized swelling and bruising. Cold packs should not be used for more than 15 minutes with 15 minute breaks. Excessive use of cold packs can increase the risk of skin injuries. Numbness is normal for the first few weeks after surgery and you should take extra care not to leave the cold pack on your skin for too long.
Drink plenty of water
It is very important to drink plenty of water, at least 2L per day is recommended to reduce surgical swelling and effectively heal scars. Dehydration can impair wound healing and lead to excessive scarring.
Avoid getting your bandages wet for the first 48 hours
You should avoid showering or bathing for at least 48 hours after the operation. Showers or baths with hot water should be avoided for at least four weeks as this can increase surgical swelling.
Don't expose your cuts to strong sunlight
Excessive exposure to the sun can be the resulthyperpigmentationof the healing incisions, which can lead to unsightly scarring. You should minimize the time you spend outdoors and when you do go outside, be sure to wear protective clothing and plenty of sunscreen.
Attend all postoperative follow-up appointments
Make sure you attend all post-op check-ups as this will help our nurses and your surgeon monitor your recovery. Regular follow-up appointments allow for early detection of potential complications, and later treatment is more effective when problems are caught early. Failure to keep your scheduled appointments can increase the risk of lasting side effects, including unsightly scarring or uneven results.
What are the best foods during neck lift recovery?
Eating the right foods after a neck lift is crucial for effective healing and helps minimize the risk of complications. Multivitamins that contain zinc and vitamin C may be beneficial if you have trouble consuming foods rich in these nutrients. We recommend eating whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, and lean proteins like chicken, fish, and eggs. Nuts, seeds, and avocados are also very healthy sources of fat. These foods also have the added benefit of being easy to prepare when you may be feeling relatively tired due to a recent surgery. Eating plenty of fiber and staying hydrated helps minimize constipation symptoms, which are not uncommon after a surgical procedure. You should also avoid certain foods, including fried foods, processed foods, and high-fat dairy products. This is because they compound information and can interfere with your healing.
Neck Lift Recovery Schedule - What to Expect
Make sure you get enough rest and avoid significant physical activity. Be sure to apply cold packs to the neck area to minimize swelling, bruising, and discomfort.
Avoid getting your bandages wet and you should avoid showering or bathing. Continue to take your prescribed medications as directed and rest.
You should avoid strenuous activities and eat a healthy diet. Focus on relaxation exercises and make sure your compression garments are put on continuously.
Most patients can return to a desk job when bruising and swelling have sufficiently reduced. He will undergo a post-op check-up with a nurse a week after the operation to inspect the incisions and provide post-op advice on when to start and return to exercise.
Patients can now perform light forms of exercise such as walks in the park. Compression clothing no longer has to be worn all the time, it should still be worn during the day but can be removed if you want to go out in public.
Most patients find that the postoperative swelling has subsided. You will have a surgeon's appointment six weeks after your surgery to assess the initial results of your surgery. Almost all patients can do all their normal activities, including going to the gym.

Frequently Asked Questions About Neck Lift Recovery
How long does swelling last after a neck lift?
Swelling is a common side effect after a neck lift and occurs in the first week after surgery. It's important to rest and avoid vigorous exercise so that most swelling will go away by four weeks after the neck lift.
How long does the tension last after a neck lift?
Neck tension with associated numbness are common side effects that occur after a neck lift and are temporary in nature. Most neck tension will improve after 4 to 6 weeks and numbness can be expected to improve up to 8 weeks after surgery.
Will my ability to swallow be affected by a neck lift?
Patients occasionally report a feeling of tightness around their throat, which worsens when they try to swallow. This is a very rare symptom that gets better over time, and throat lift surgery is not generally associated with swallowing problems.
Why should I wear the neck lift compression garments?
It is important to wear neck compression garments according to your surgeon's instructions to ensure the contours of the neck are maintained post-surgery. The garment also helps reduce the risk of seroma and hematoma. Wearing your garment continuously will help achieve better results. If the garment is not worn continuously, the risk of sagging skin on the neck may increase.
When can I shower after a neck lift?
As with any surgical procedure involving incisions, it is important to keep neck lift incisions dry for at least 48 hours after surgery. You can then shower or bathe with lukewarm water. You should avoid hot water as it can increase swelling. A non-irritating mild shampoo should be used to avoid irritation of the incisions.
Is a neck lift painful?
Neck lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia, and your surgeon will inject a local anesthetic while you sleep, which will help you feel comfortable after the procedure. Taking the prescription pain relievers as directed after the procedure will help minimize discomfort. Most patients who have a neck lift report only mild discomfort, which resolves by the end of the first week.
What is the best sleeping position after a neck lift?
Patients should sleep on their backs with their heads elevated after neck lift surgery. This helps avoid any stress on the incisions, which can increase the risk of wound breakdown. You should sleep on your back for the first four weeks after the operation. Depending on the type of neck lift procedure performed, your surgeon may allow you to sleep on your side after two weeks, but you should always speak to your surgeon first.
When can I exercise after a neck lift?
Most physical activities should be avoided for the first three weeks after surgery. In the first three days after the operation, you should take it easy and avoid physical exertion. After the first week, light exercise consisting of short walks can be undertaken. Normal exercise can resume after the sixth week once your surgeon clears you, although you should still avoid lifting heavy objects.
Is a massage useful to reduce bruising and swelling after a neck lift?
A massage can be very useful after a neck lift to reduce bruising and swelling, although it should be taken very lightly to avoid worsening swelling, which can affect surgical results. The massage technique should only be done with the fingertips, which should not be pressed too hard into the skin.

Great from start to finish, the main thing was that the communication was comprehensively informed and looked after, the staff was great on the day of my breast augmentation and I felt comfortable throughout the entire process. Thank you very much.
I have had such a great experience with excellent advice, care and surgical treatment (gynaecomastia) - I can fully and without hesitation confirm the treatment I received from the Center for Surgery. Brilliant in every way - thank you everyone.
Very happy with my overall experience of having a procedure. I was so nervous about getting treatment and I was reassured and made to feel so comfortable throughout thanks to the amazing nurses. I definitely made the right decision to have breast augmentation surgery at Dr. to have Erel carried out.
I'm so glad I chose the Surgery Center, the whole process went smoothly, from the consultations to the actual day of the procedure. I was so nervous that day but the whole team put my mind at ease and I'm happy with my results as I'm much more comfortable in certain clothes now. My surgeon was Alberto Di Giuseppe who performed a breast augmentation on me and I would definitely recommend it as he was very clear on what the outcome of the surgery would be and what size would look best for my frame.
Raphinha is the same
I could do with the work of Dr. Tillo couldn't be happier, I had my breast surgery a week ago and am so pleased with the results so far, all the staff are lovely and very helpful, I would definitely recommend their services, thank you
From start to finish everything was perfect for the tummy tuck. All the staff are very friendly and the aftercare was good. The doctor and nurse team were fantastic. I'm so happy... the result is amazing. Thank you!!!
Overall this was a great experience, all the staff at the surgery center were friendly and put my mind at ease. It's a nerve wracking thing going through surgery but the staff was so nice. Mr. Ertan has a great team around him. Everything went smoothly according to plan on the day of the surgery, there were no delays or delays, I had another consultation with Mr. Ertan who confirmed what needs to be done and that I am still happy to proceed. I was prepared for the procedure, I met with the anesthetist who again was very nice and reassured me by explaining his role to me. After the procedure I woke up with the nurse at my side making sure I was ok and checking on me. I was able to stay in the clinic until I was ready to leave and was in no rush at all. I was well looked after from the beginning until I was discharged. After the surgery I stayed at a local hotel that was so close that there was no point in taking a taxi and I was able to walk back to where my partner was waiting for me. I was expecting lots of bruising in both eyes but since the cast was removed after 7 days there was very little if any, I am now at the point of the 2 week post op and it is healing well with no externally visible bruising or scarring. The next milestone is an examination after 6 weeks with my surgeon. If you are thinking of having something like this done I would highly recommend contacting the Center for Surgery.
The staff at the surgery center was very nice and accommodating. They answered any questions I had about the procedure and kept checking on me. A special thanks to Christina for all her support throughout.
I just want to emphasize that the quality of care given by the nurses in the surgical center was above the highest level. Sophie takes her patient care to a different level than words. She always calms me down. She is there for me even in my toughest hours, just when I needed the most reassurance, and is one of the most compassionate nurses I have encountered and naturally demonstrates her passion for caring for others. She absolutely deserves recognition at its finest and thank you for always being there for me. 😍
